That was what I got for giving Ella sweet potato. And I wished I had taken a photo of that but it was impossible to leave her in the chair and get the camera and then snap a pix coz the cheeky vegemite is now in that ‘I can self-launch, Mommy!’ and ‘Wriggler of the Year’ stage so no way can I leave her for even a second! What a waste that was….the utter look of disgust and disbelieve that I subjected her to such a burst of flavour was so clearly shown on her face that if she could talk, I bet she would say, ‘Mommy, I don’t like you.’

I was very surprised and a little shocked to see that she didn’t like it one bit. After hearing from most of the ladies here and even MIL said that babies liked kumara [sweet potato as it's called here], Ella’s response totally threw me off guard. I guess it was partly my fault. The first time I fed her the kumara, I noticed that it was a had some fibre in there like most ubi so I stopped giving it to her, which I’m sure she was damn glad about and sieved it through a strainer so that it was super smooth, more smooth that your average mash potato. I call it my gourmet baby food coz in restaurants, mash potato through a sieve is a gourmet dish. Anyway, her first reaction to it was to screw up her face. I expected that seeing that it was the first time she tried anything else other than the plain rice cereal. So the fibres was my first mistake.

#2 was the fact that perhaps I had it too thick and not runny enough. It was what I’d called ‘clagy’…lumpy….more cereal like than runny so maybe she’s not prepared for that consistency hence half way through the meal, she began refusing and at one point, she made that action when you almost wanna throw up but you don’t kind of reaction and so I stopped giving it to her all at once. And that was it. I mean, I wouldn’t want someone else to be forcing down food I didn’t like that made me throw up so I’m keeping the rest of the kumara for later and this time, I’ll make sure they are more runny. I managed to get more than a tray full of frozen kumara from just one tuber so that will last for awhile, at least a month and I’ve dated it so I know.

Yesterday, I tried pear since I didn’t have any apples with me. The only apples we have are the cheap, and slightly crappy ones that we buy to feed the wild lorrikeets that come by almost everyday. So we sort of feed them…well, more like Ted does. However pretty they may be, they kind of drive me up the wall with their chirping early in the morning and it’s at those moments I feel like gunning them down and having them BBQ-ed for lunch. I mean, it’s bad enough that I have to get up at 4am sometimes to feed her so any extra sleep I can get into the morning, I’ll grab, you know? But these birds aren’t helping at all!!

Anyway, the stewed and then blended pears that I made was good and although I still got the screwed up face the first time she tried it, I’m glad to say that at least most of it end up in her rather than on me or my face. So that’s all good. Not too sure what I wanna try next….maybe pumpkin most likely but before that, I’ma gonna get me this hand blender thingy which is really good for blending food which are small in amounts compared to powering up a huge blender for just a pear or an apple, if you know what I mean. It’s not really that expensive so will get that on Monday.

On the poop front, she is pooping more frequently now that she’s had her solids and I can’t really tell is the texture is that much different although I’d be lying if I say that it’s the same. So maybe it’s a little different but not that much. I still can’t get over how excited and happy we both are when she poops! lol It’s like something that calls for a celebration….how very bizarre. You know, becoming a parent really makes you look at things that you used to feel disgusted and icky about then, seem like nothing or in the case of pooping, something to be joyful about. :D

Weird eh?
