A lot of people I know, particularly close friends are all having babies this year. And not to mention that one of the girls in my sewing forum will have a house full of grandchildren this year too! She’s going to be so busy sewing for all those tiny bubs. *lol* Apparently, it’s a baby boom year this year – the year of the Tiger.
Finding out that so many people I know is pregnant reminded me of the time when we found out that we were pregnant with Arianna and KR. While a lot of women I know get right on to supplements and all this added nutrients for the growing baby, I was never one of them. I didn’t take mouthfuls of prenatal vitamins at all. In fact, I did the bare minimum which was my daily 1 pill of Elevit which is not only perfect during pregnancy, it’s great for after bub is born and while breastfeeding. While it contains folate and all the nutrients that bub needs, it also has calcium and all the stuff I need while bf bub. So it’s a complete package without the hassle of gulping down a million and one pills. Plus, my doc only recommended that I take this so why would I want to add more right? Also, I’ve never been good at taking my pills regularly so once a day is more than good enough for me.
Now, the only other pill that I ever took was raspberry tea leaf and that was in my final trimester. This is to help the cervix soften and help with labour too although I can’t actually remember what it does precisely. You’d have to look it up or search my blog for it coz I know I’ve written about it. KR’s doc reckons that it does work so if it works, then I guess it wouldn’t hurt to keep at it.
While I realise that what we take is mostly for the health and well-being of the growing baby, I think one should also bear in mind that everyone wants a healthy baby but how many of us want to push out a monster baby?? Give me small anytime coz I am of the opinion that getting a smaller baby out hurts a lot less and I can always fatten them up when they are outside. But to push out a monster baby would be a nightmare and dangerous too PLUS I’d have to put in double the effort to keep it full! *lol* I know that doesn’t sound nice but it’s reality. Bigger babies eat more….so it will take a toll on you, like it or not.
Hence, I don’t take any Anmum or milk of that sort to help with baby’s growth. I do however have a glass of normal full cream milk or regular soy milk everyday. I think that should be sufficient calcium enough. And if it wasn’t, I’m sure my doc would tell me so.

Ps. The best to on good weight is Mummy’s food!!! Golly, now I wished I was back home!! >.<
