Potty training

I think I may have left potty training for Arianna a wee bit late. SHe is 22 months now and still in nappy. Mum told me that with me and sis, we were potty trained early and well, I feel a little bad coz I wished I had started early. But that said, I think in a way it is still not too late as my cousin’s son only started to really get into it when he was close to 3, so we are still within a redeemable stage! [Yes, I'm self consoling here!!]
Anyway, I started by getting the kind where you just place the baby potty on the toilet seat and just close the lid so that it stays in place. The first time I put Arianna on there, she had no idea what was going on. She was truly clueless. I gave her a book and waited and makes all these sounds [ngggk nggkk... if you know what I mean and shee-shee to wee] but nothing happened. Of course I knew that it wasn’t going to happen that easily but it was a start. After about 10 minutes, she started getting restless so that was it.
The next day, before I could put her on the potty, she did a poo and we missed the cue! And since then, we haven’t started up again. I think I read in Vien’s blog that she’s take her girls into the loo when she went to wee so that they’d get the idea. I might have to do that coz this is one department Daddy can’t help at all!
I wonder how long it would take for a child to get the idea and be potty trained? Also, how would one who has carpetted floor let a child run amok nappyless?? I don’t think I could welcome a pee stained carpet with open arms….blek!

carpet a bit susah lah, but maybe sew her trainer pants, those can only take 1 or 2 pee oni and its pull up kind. you can sew from the panties in ottobre 4.2004 just make 1 size bigger and put padded at the crotch area but leave the elastic to her waist size so it dont sag.
we started with ava at 16 months, took a good year before she was finally potty trained. night time still hit and miss here but we are working on it, i think in a couple more months or before her bday in sept, she should be potty trained for night time too.
good luck!

Hey Yvy….it’s never too early or too late to start potty training….just follow her lead…I started to potty train Naomi when she’s 17months and my strategy is bring her the potty every 2-3hours (esp after her milk/water). First few attempts usually nothing will come out but after a while she gets it. But….sometimes if you forget to bring the potty….’accident’ can happen but like your case…carpet a bit susah….Naomi finally able to tell us when she wants to go when she’s 2 years old and not before that….so good luck!

it’s definitely not too late! we started with gib once he understood what we were saying and could tell us if he’d need to go. so.. about 24+ months lah. we let his Baba demonstrate the poo business. hehee. in arianna’s case, i think of course you lah demonstrate ;) ohhh and i wish i had aida’s sewing talent coz those pants sound like heaven sent! wish i had some of those! once gib wet-ted the sofa and i fabreezed it like crayzee after cleaning it. bleah.
good luck and by the way, i think ure doing great with handling the two kids on your own! :D
