Toddlerobics?
Yup, toddler aerobics is the new in thing in Australia these days. Apparently, kids these days are getting more and more overweight, and the schools are now trying to get an exercise program going for school children. Kids as young as preschoolers are being targeted for this compulsory exercise regime which I think can’t be bad in the long run.
But this does bring up the subject of why obesity is now very common amongst young children. We’re talking school going kids here, not some teenager who has been stuffing their face with burgers and fries, and watches telly 24/7. It really freaked me out because I personally think that it’s the kind of thing that just clings on and happens when you least expect it.
There is no way anyone can blame the child because it falls back on the parents. The main culprits are sad to say, are all those fastfood restaurants that targets kids because they are just so easy to influence. Just throw in a toy in a kids meal and you’d got them hook. It’s good to note that to a certain extend, McD’s are doing a little better by offering some really low cal meal deals and better options for kids like fruit slices and juice. But in the long run, with the prices of a set meal being so cheap comparatively to a proper takeaway meal outside, people will still end up buying these really bad fastfoods. And voila, you’ve got a fat nation growing. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think Australia is the next country after US with the number of obese people on the rise.
I won’t deny the fact that I love McD’s. In fact, I would love to have a packet of those delish golden fries everyday if I could, but I won’t. Having a double quarter pounder has made me never want to eat any other burger but I don’t have it often. In fact, I can’t remember when I last went to McD’s - and this is a GOOD thing. It’s really sad to see the number of kids at McD’s and all these fastfood restaurants. You can but hope that it’s not a daily outing but some sort of weekend treat which is all good.
That said, it’s not as if no one is trying to save the nation for obese-dom. Woolworth’s, one of the major supermarkets around has launched a eat healthy lifestyle for kids and these adverts are just TOO cute! I find them very encouraging and kids will definitely want to follow if they play it often enough. I wish that other companies would do the same and perhaps that would help with this obesity issue.
No one wants to be fat. That’s just bad on all levels.
