Kecik is 33 weeks old

Check up with Dr. Booker went pretty well. Sometimes I wonder what are the necessary things which the doc checks to see if thing are going well with mum and bub. I was hoping for a scan yesterday so that I could find out Kecik’s weight but all I got was doc putting a hand-ultrasound thingy and checked Kecik’s heartbeat. And he said that she was doing fine, which of course is good news for us.

He also measured my tummy and said that the measurements fitted the number of gestational weeks and looks like Kecik’s back on track where growth is concerned. She got us a little worried during my previous ‘big’ ultrasound when the sonographer told us that Kecik was slightly smaller than average but now, she’s got us at ease knowing that she’s growing satisfactorily.

I asked Doc about several labour management techniques and also abt the TENS machine and he said that from his experience, the TENS machine didn’t really help much and most of the time, the mums would ask for some other alternative ie. pethidine or epidural. So I told Doc that my plan was to go as drug-free as possible and then on to other alternative if things don’t go as plan and he said that that was the best approach. He didn’t say that I should try the TENS at all but I should give it a try if I wanted to. So now I have to go and find out how much it costs to rent one of these thingys.  He also mentioned that it’s all about how you take the labour. His main point was not to have any fear coz when you’re afraid, everything jams up and your hormones go crazy, your adrenaline goes nuts and you tense up and things just get from bad to worst. So try to stay positive and calm and just don’t fear the pain. Gosh….easier said than done I bet! But all the same, I’ll only know when I come to that bridge.

After the docs, I went to get my glucose test done. This time we were right on time BUT as always, I tend to end up on the losing end. I took the sugar drink at 4.50pm and it takes approximately an hour before blood can be drawn for the testing. So at 5.30pm, we went up to Pathology and waited for abt 5mins and the ‘tester’ came out and got me. Checked my veins and praised them saying, ‘God gave your beautiful veins!’ and picked my right arm to draw blood. I’m not really afraid of needles because #1. I love tattoos and how can you love tattoos and hate needles right? #2. I donate blood quite regularly back in Malaysia and the needle is your best friend then so, it was no biggie for me. I was done in a few minutes and I was ready to go home.

Then when Ted saw me out so quick, he said that it takes an hour for the glucose to go through the system, how come the test was done so early. I said I had no idea so we went up to reception and turns out that indeed, the guy took my blood too early and we had to re-do the whole thing. Bah!! Although he was apologetic which he damn well was suppose to be, he’s got to remember to be more careful about checking these little things. Thank goodness for him that I’m not a fussy pot and that my veins are easy to find. I pity those people whose vein seem non-existent and they get poked at so much, it must really hurt!

So now, I have both my arms slightly bruised but no real damage done. Phew! I must say that it did hurt a wee bit – it’s been some time since I last donated blood. I forgot what it felt like. Heh. Today, we are going to attend our pre-natal Class #1. Lord knows what’s going to happen today…… *gulp*
