Potting training in progress

t’s been almost a month and I am quite glad with Arianna’s progress in potty training (PT). We are down to NIL accidents during the day but still in nappies during naps and night time. It’s really good to see her taking the initiative and going to the toilet on her own. :) The only time there were any accidents was because she was too engrossed watching tv or having too much fun playing so she didn’t make it in time. So at this point of time, I’m a very happy Mummy! I dare say my extreme method worked. lol

Now we have to work on the nap and night time loo runs but at the moment, I think her body is not yet ready because one of the signs that she is ready for it is having a dry nappy when she wakes up and at the moment, it is normally soaking wet. So the brains isn’t telling the body not to wee. Not sure how long before she is ready but we’re hoping that the brand new sheets that we got her will encourage her.

Another thing that we could do is to decrease her milk intake before bed and get her onto the toilet before she goes to bed. We haven’t tried it out yet, but I hope that it will work out sooner than later.

That said, it is not the same with KR. I thought that it would be a good idea to PT with Arianna so that she could copy her but it’s not working. Poor thing is totally not ready for PT and had a massive freakout yesterday as I let her go without nappies for the day. She was ready and couldn’t deal with the fact that she was ‘wet’. Then I realised that she was holding it in! >.< Poor thing!!! So today, I’ve put her back onto nappies but in the morning she was still quite stressed about it and wasn’t happy about the wet feeling until I told her that she had her nappy on so her pants wont get wet. She is still stressing out each time she wees in her nappies so I really dont know what to make of it.

I’m actually regretting trying to PT her that day. Now I’m not sure how I’m EVER going to get her on the toilet coz she just totally freaks out each time she wees despite having her nappy on!! :(

Quiet time

Quiet time in our house is rare. The girls love running up and down the hallway screaming and shouting when they are having fun and while it’s good that they are happy with this, it does me no good at all. It drives me up the wall!! But every so often, I get to enjoy these quiet moments which make them extra special.

Quiet time
*Please ignore the mess around* :P

Quiet time
Arianna loves books and although she cant read yet, her memory is fantastic. She *reads* aloud and what she repeats is what we’ve read to her. Pretty impressive…. :)

Quiet time
And because Arianna has set a good example by reading books, it’s rubbed off quite nicely on KR. :) Though she is not into books as much as Arianna (she’s the Picasso in the family), it’s nice to see her ‘reading’ every now and then.

So technically, we’ve got a bookworm and an artist at the moment….perhaps Brandon will be the one who will be into sports, eh? :) One can hope….coz Ted’s already planning his footy career!

Where have they gone?

In my recent attempts to bribe the kids (while I do not like doing it, I’d like to console myself that my actions will keep my sane), I’ve resorted to playing (again) this Gummi Bear vid from YouTube. The girls love it and we first got hooked on it back in Kulim when I accidentally stumbled upon it. At that time, it was being played at least 15-20 a DAY. On average, it was 5 times each time I bribed them.

Now that they are older and able to understand me more, it’s twice of each video before I switch the pc off. And the girls know that if they do so, so and so first, then they get to watch Gummi Bear. It’s bad but if that is what it takes for them to have their meals then so be it. Not sure how this will turn around and bite me coz I know that it will, but for now….it gives me some sort of control over things.

And while I was on YouTube searching for cartoons and kiddie vids, I stumbled upon many of the cartoons that I used to watch as a kid! What a wonderful walk down memory lane it was as I watched and listened to the theme songs from the (original, not green jelly) Gummi Bears, Darkwing Duck, Talespin, Carebears, etc….I grew up with these characters and I would still be watching it on telly if it was on.

Instead we have that blasted Barbie cartoon on! >:( O how I hate her with passion. Of course there are other cartoons that I find quite entertaining as well but nothing beats oldschool cartoons. At the moment, the girls are quite faithful to Australia’s most loved kids show, Playschool which I find really good, and the rest like Timmy Time (thanks to Timmy, we too now have Naptime, Playtime, Lunchtime), Octonauts and Dirtgirl World are shows that they enjoy but sometimes cant be bothered with. O, they like Sesame Street too! :)

I wished that somehow, someone could bring all these old cartoons back. It sure as heck better than some of the cartoons these days….some of them are too violent even for kids! I miss those days…..

Waaaaay overdue pre-Christmas pix

It’s already February I know and I can’t believe how behind I am with all my pix this year! But you all know why this is so right? After all, I can now easily get away from a lot of things by mainly using this excuse….I have 3 kids under 4. That’s right….you heard me, 3 under 4!! And I reckon that will work like a charm if ever I need to get out of something. Haha! :) Anyway, here are some shot mostly taken on Christmas Eve at our place

Santa’s Lil’ Helpers all geared up and ready to go!

I know that’s quite a handful of pix but its the least I can upload for Mum and Sis to see. They are both back in Kulim and I reckon the miss the kids a whole lot. And I miss them just as much too. But I am glad that sis has since moved back to Kulim and found a job as a lecturer. I never thought she’d end up a lecturer but at least someone is walking in the footsteps of our parents – both were teachers you see. But I bet my mum has had enough of teaching though! lol She definitely had her fair share of schoolkids.

You know, I reckon schoolkids are rather pampered these days. I know education is important and all and in Malaysia, the government has even provided laptops for students especially those underprivileged ones. While I totally aplaud their efforts, you have to be realistic….if they are underprivileged, giving them something that may cost a fair bit to upkeep (ie. sending for repair, upgrading, etc….) seems rather pointless to me. But then again, I am but a simple minded person so perhaps there is some big plan I am not seeing. One can hope that there is logic in the whole plan…man, talk about taking a detour!! O.o

Anyhoo, there are also some Christmas day pix that I need to upload as well…will do that in the next few post. Promise!

Sisterly bonding

The girls are growing up so fast that I can’t believe Arianna is turning 4 this year and KR will be 2 in April!! O.o How the heck did that happen??? And omg, Ted and I will be celebrating our 5th wedding anniversary!! O.O Crikey….imagine that. :)

Anyway, with the girls growing up together like this, I am seeing the advantages of having a narrow age gap between children. While I am suffering (in silence) because of the narrow age gap when it comes to disciplining (we forget and tend to treat KR as if she was almost 4 when she’s really a lot younger) and dividing attention fairly, one of the advantages I noticed is that they can play nicely together (when they want to). And Ariann being the elder one, she seem to have taken it up on herself to be the teacher so she teaches KR what she knows. It’s really very cute when she corrects KR about animals and letters. lol :P I’ll have to look up the video. This is them coloring together – one of those precious few moments of happiness before the fighting starts on who gets what color! :/

I wonder what it’s going to be like when Arianna has another little to handle?? LOL Dividing anything 3 ways means a smaller portion for her and mind you, she’s got a bit of kiasu-ness in her!!

Pre-Christmas shots (Loooooooong overdue)

Although we are technically celebrating Chinese New Year in just a few weeks, I only managed to find the time to do this now (not that I was busy prep anything for CNY!). :P Here are some pre-Christmas shots I took of the kids in their Christmas headgear. Note that I could never take on the career as a photographer and given the choice between a photographer or a sales career, it would be hard to pick the one! I’d most likely take forever toying with the idea of having a career in either one that at the end of the day, I’d most likely end up in another position doing something else all together! lol :P

Anyway, on with this then :

Aaahh…now quickly my girls are growing up. In some shots, they look too grown up!! I want my babies back….where did they go?? :P

All that said and done, this being Chinese New Year and all, Gong Xi Fac Cai!

Big girl now!!

It’s been awhile since I talked about the girls. Things are moving so fast for me these days, to be honest, I STILL haven’t got my head around things yet. Some days I think, how the heck am I going to manage with 2 toddlers and a baby. And others days, things seems to fall into place so nicely I think that I will survive after all. But as time for Mum to leave seems to be nearer, I’m getting really nervous about handling my brood. That’ll teach me (at least) for not having a bigger gap between the kids. :/

Anyway, latest updates on the girls is not that much. Arianna is turning out to be quite the princess/ballerina. Forever twirling and dancing but on the other hand, she is a trouble maker and really very cheeky (nakal). For those who understand, she loves to cari pasal and it often gets her into loads of trouble. She can be VERY defiant sometimes but other times, she is an excellent teacher coz KR has picked up a lot from her, both the good and bad of course.

As for KR, the good stuff is that her vocab is definitely good (at least compared to Arianna at the same age) and her interaction with people is pretty good too. Although she does not share her smiles willingly, I reckon she’s got the Mona Lisa smile about her. :P The other development is that she had her first poop on the big toilet day before! :) I was surprise she did it but I’m glad I listened to Mum and put her on. It took some coaxing but she did it in the end. However, I have been unsuccessful in getting her to go again though. :P

That said, I’m still concern that she is walking yet. For most times, she crawls but other times, she ‘walks’ on her knees. :/ It’s the first time I’ve seen any kid do it and Mum is just as surprised. While I don’t think she has any issues walking coz I’ve seen her take a couple of steps unknowingly, it looks to me as if she’s not confident enough or afraid to walk in case she’d fall down and I have no idea on how to get her to walk.

You’d think that kids would be raring to learn how to walk but not my KR and it’s a little frustrating especially when you’ve got a baby at home as well. It makes for going out and all a little tough coz we still have to carry KR around. Sometimes it sucks big time. So if you’ve got a way/tip/trick to get her walking, please….let me know!

The big MOVE

We finally took the huge step of moving the girls into the same bedroom yesterday. So starts their journey of being room mates. :P I have always been dreading this moment because I just don’t know what to expect and also whether or not there was enough space but praise God, both cots can fit in comfortably with enough space for Nanna and her luggage when she gets here. :)

We decided to test this new arrangement out during their arvo nap. We cleared Arianna’s room and moved KR’s cot in there and all the while I was telling Arianna that KR will be sleeping with her. I don’t think she knew what the heck I was talking about until we set up KR’s cot that I caught her standing in shock and staring at the new cot. LOL But that soon ended the minute she heard the opening credits of Captain Mack. >.< Anyway, as expected, when it came time for nap time, both of them were up for awhile giggling, chatiting and playing but KR plonked off first and I guess Arianna got bored with no one to disturb that she too fell asleep. That was a good sign...and came night time, well...suffice to say that BOTH of them didn't fall asleep till at least 10pm and they were IN bed around 9pm. Terrible I tells ya!!!

Today, arvo nap was a daymare for me!!! >.< Arianna is in this phase where she screams for things when she doesn't get it and more often than not, she just screams and shrieks for no particular reason and it's been driving me absolutely up the wall! That was exactly what happened this afternoon. They had both been behaving ok, not angels at all but ok and then it was nap time and they went into bed at about 2pm....they shrieked, shouted, screamed, threw pillows and bears out of their cots for approximately 1.5hr before they both zonked out. >.<

And amidst all that, I was walking into the room every 10-15mins or so, screaming at them to go to sleep! It was so stressful and tiring, it's not funny. Really. FINALLY, at 3.30pm....I experienced the sound of silence. O what a beautiful thing that is! So I went in to check on them and what did I find....? KR had somehow reached over her cot and got hold of Arianna's dress from on the bed and Arianna had in her cot, KR's pillow and a book off the shelf above her cot! >.< No wonder they were kept occupied....we'll have to rearrange the furniture in there so that no one can reach anything or play with the cupboard doors....otherwise, there will be no decent sleep for the both of them.

I pity Arianna mostly coz when it comes to night time, she tends to go off to lala-land faster than KR...and I know this because so far, even now....I can still hear KR carrying on and when we checked on her, Arianna has her bear over her head and KR is standing up in her cot. >.< I know that this is merely a passing phase, but man….I think it’s going to be a long one! But I’m glad that we’ve started this now and not waited till the last minute coz it would be hell trying to pull this off with the new bub and Mum here as well.

So, Nanna…I hope you will enjoy the company of BOTH your grandkids with you in your room when you come down in a couple of weeks. ;) It’s going to be FUN!!

Babies and bath time

It wasn’t too long ago when we had to bath Arianna for the first time since her birth, and I was just so jittery about bathing her that I passed on that mission to Ted who gladly took it on and boy, did that girl scream her lungs out! She absolutely hated her first bath and I was totally freaking out. Thank goodness it wasn’t me holding her or Lord knows what I’d do! Then came KR’s turn and once again, I pushed Ted to do it although this time around, after being more experience and what not, I have him the honors anyway coz I wanted to take the pix. :) KR loved her first bath, in fact she was loving it so much that you could literally see it in her face!

Bathing with Daddy
Aaaahhh, bliss….

Today, both girls love their baths and it was only recently that we’ve been bathing them together in the tub coz it’s just too taxing for me to bathe them one by one in my current state as well as, we do save on water AND soap! :P Plus, I gotta admit that it’s more fun as well coz they got bath toys and the lot in there.

CIMG0099
Bath time at KLCC Impiana – the first time we put them in the tub together – thank gooodness no blood was shed coz Arianna doesn’t necessarily likes to share her tub. :P

The routine is normally, after bath, I rub them down and lather them up with baby cream to keep their skin moist but these days I keep forgetting. I will really have to keep an eye on how their skin developes over the years because of my horrible pimple gene. I wouldn’t want to be hunting for the best acne treatments in town unless I really have to and honestly, I really don’t want them to go through what I went through as a pimpled face teen in school – what can I say, some memories you just don’t forget, you know? But I’ll worry about that when the time comes.

The evil Mummy

Being a parent is never easy. Sometimes the decisions that you make don’t really help you get the result that you’re after. A simple example would be me, being the evil mother who forces her kids to have afternoon naps even if they don’t want to sleep. While some parents think that is it not necessary for their kids, I, on the other hand feel that it is an absolute must. 2 main reasons why I stick very firmly by this decision is because when MY kids don’t get their afternoon nap, they turn into cranky, bratty kids who make me just want to give them up to the gypsies and, as a SAHM, I need my time-out from them as well. As much as I love my babies…..I need my sanity to stay alive and not break their little necks when they get all whingy and whiny.

A lot of my friends just let their kids do what they want to and it works fine for them and I don’t doubt that perhaps that is what works best for them but not for me, ever. Today was a classic example of me pulling off the evil mummy. :P We sent the kids to bed at 1.30pm because they normally go for their afternoon nap between 1.30pm and 2pm, and at 3pm, I could still hear chatterings from Arianna’s room. Now, the same thing happened yesterday and I didn’t do anything about it because I thought, ‘Hey, she’s still resting and that’s the whole idea of an afternoon nap’. BUT the problem was that she most likely fell asleep around 4pm and we had to be getting ready for church at 4.30pm! So you can imagine how upset and tired she was, it was not a pretty sight and it took all the patience and sanity in me to hold it all together. It is no easy feat especially in my current state. So I sure as hell wasn’t going to let that repeat today.

So at 3.15pm I marched into her room and sort of sternly told her, ‘Now you close your eyes and you sleep! No playing in bed, go to sleep and when you wake up, you can watch some tv.’ Then I left the room and at 3.30pm, I heard her singing away! >.< So I marched in there again to find her bear still covering her face (the position she gets into when she wants to go to sleep) but still apparently wide awake and singing, and I told her more sternly this time, ‘ Go to sleep! I don’t want to hear anything from you, no singing…no making noise, no nothing. Close your eyes now and sleep!!’. Sure enough, that worked and she fell asleep. And like clockwork, KR wakes up at 4.30pm and gets to play with Arianna’s toy in peace coz I let Arianna have extra 20 min or so of sleep before I went in to get her at 5pm. And she was F.I.N.E! I was so glad I went screaming at her to go to bed. It may sound harsh and perhaps some parents wouldn’t even agree with what I’m going – perhaps it’s rather old fashion too but I do not stand alone on this. Ted, my mum, his mum…we all agree that the kids need their afternoon nap. Heck, I was forced to sleep every arvo too! And I can tell you that it did me more good than harm. ;) So, sorry girls…as long as I can help it, you’re going to bed every arvo whether you like it or not! :P
