35 weeks and bursting out of my pants!

Into my 35th week and today was our 2nd fortnightly checkup with the doc. Another one on 31st Mar and then we are down to the weekly checkups. That is SUCH a jarring wakeup call!! *lol* Can’t believe that it was just a couple of months ago I was complaining how I look more fat than pregnant. And today, as we were walking up the stairs, we bumped into one of our neighbours whom we’ve not yet spoken to since she is new [and happens to be someone who needs a GOOD talking to], she asked me how far long I was and was totally surprised that Pacman is arriving in 5 weeks time! I assumed she thought I was still too small….

But not me. I feel as if I’m bursting out of my pants and there is NO way Pacman will be able to grow anymore. I don’t know if my stomach can stretch anymore or not. I seriously feel that if she grows anymore, she is going to be able to just tear her way out ie. Alien baby style. I am so not kidding….

Here’s a belly shot I finally took :

35 wks preggers
Doesn’t really show it but trust me, this IS huge.

After experiencing that gastro bug last week, my appetite hasn’t quite been the same. I’ve kind of lost my appetite but doesn’t mean that I’m not eating. I still am but not as much as I used to and that is most likely why I have actually lost weight twice in a row. I was quite concern but apparently the doctor and nurse weren’t so this must be a norm or that bub is still ok and hence, nothing to worry about. All in all, I’ve put on approx 8kgs since I got pregnant and I don’t think that’s too bad. A friend of mine put on 20kgs and till today, I don’t know how she did it!

Anyway, other than that, Pacman is still facing downwards which is good as her head has been engaged since as long as I can remember, which has been about a few weeks now and growth wise, she is doing fine too. We had an scan done today but I was hoping to see more of her, instead it was a super quick scan to just check if she was positioned well. And since we were already looking at her, to finally be able to tell MIL once and for all that we were indeed having a girl, we double checked and yes, doc says that it looks more female than male. So that should get MIL off my back about what boy’s name we’ve since picked. Phew!

I’ve also been experiencing this stabbing sort of pain on the upper part of my tummy and only was did this pain occur on the lower left so I was genuinely concern about it and brought it up. Apparently, its nothing serious and once again, a norm since bub has limited space to move about and hence in my case, Pacman has been pushing her bum out while stretching and causing me much soreness. Talk about bum power!! :P The pain is no joke cause at times it feels so stretched and strained, and worst still since sometimes I can’t even bend over at all. Of course I suffer the most when Arianna gets one of her clingy moods which, thank goodness is not often and wants to be carried. Gawd, its times like that I wished I had more bodies to do the carrying for me!

I have kind of started counting down the days and I have such a strong feeling that Pacman is definitely coming early and packing her stuff into my hospital bag is a reminder that it’s really not long anymore. O, and I managed to get me a Swiss ball from eBay hence I won’t have to worry about getting one at the hospital. I still can’t believe that they have only ONE Swiss ball…unbelieavable!! Doesn’t matter….as long as I got mine, I’m a happy little Vegemite! :D

And the journey begins

I can officially say that my journey into sewing land has begun. Let me add that I thought it would have been so embarassing if I had called up my the service centre and complain that my brand new machine wasn’t working!! So what happened? Well, the moment we got back from Spotlight, this really huge fabric and craft place just 10 minutes away [YAYNESS!!], I started straight away! Of course, I made sure Arianna was asleep for the afternoon before I started meddling with the machine.

I knew how to thread the needle, spin a bobbin and use the dials, and that was good enough for me. So I thought I was all go. I had already cut up the fabric to sew Arianna a pair of long pants coz I washed all the fabric which I just bought because that’s what most people seem to do, or so I think anyway. And while waiting for the load, I got ready to sew and the needle just kept jumping and jumping!! I was crossed and upset as I was so geared up but wasn’t going to give in that easily. So I re-threaded it, changed the bobbin and did almost everything I could think of when SUDDENLY, as I looked up, I noticed that I had not threaded it the RIGHT way! Aiyooo……how stupid is that?? I missed threading through one bit and once that was fixed, I was good to go and tadaa….

PJ pants
Would have finished this is in about 1 hr if I had managed to fix my machine. Planning to do up a matching top as well but have no idea about the pattern yet….will have to draw up something, any ideas if I should have a buttoned top or a pull over?? This is cotton so I might have to stick with the buttoned top…

And I’m sure Aida of all people is waiting to see the damage but I have to warn you before hand that it’s not that fantastic la. But to me, I thought it was a big deal!!

Damage #1
Damage 1 – my first ever ‘stash’ of material. *lol* To be honest, I went totally blank, as normal when I first stepped in. I didn’t know what I wanted to sew or what I was looking for. Mostly, I was going for the stuff that was on sale so the most expensive material here, from memory is AU6/m. Others were between AU2 – AU5. I bought more flannelette becoz autumn is coming up and it may get chilly so am planning more PJs for Arianna and Pacman. Planning on sewing some newborn gowns for Pacman.

Damage #2
My so-called start up sewing kit. :) Just some knick knacks to get me started. I wouldn’t say that they were expensive but almost AU1:RM1 for some of the things. But Mum will be hauling over more knick knacks for me when she comes. [Aida, are those the snap fasterners u were looking for? If so, I can send u some...Mum will be bringing me a whole load!]

Will have to get a plastic container that comes with a cover to store these things or else, some sticky fingers will find their way into this box, I’m sure!! O, and I am super happy with my machine because it is so Q U I E T. And it didn’t bother Arianna one bit either. I was finishing up her pants while she watched TV and although she must have been wondering what I was doing, she wasn’t bothered by it at all and another consolation is that, I can even sew in the middle of the night coz after Ted came home from work last night at about 11.30pm or so, I ran the machine for him to see if it was quiet enough and he was so surprised too! :) So, yes….I is very teh happy!!

My new fav hangout – SPOTLIGHT!! But can’t go so often la or we’ll be bankcrupt!! *lol* Can’t wait to take my Mum there, I know she will go nuts, absolutely nuts!!

My bear-y little girl

It’s been ages since I last put up pictures of Arianna and it just occurred to me today! *lol* I hardly take any pix these days because she can’t see the camera. If she does, she starts grabbing at it and hence, I don’t really get to take any pix at all. I thought that she would be used to us taking snaps of her coz I started when she was a newborn and my FIL takes quite a number too but nup, she is still intrigued by it.

Anyway, recently, she has developed this craze for bears. It started out in Kulim where she took a liking to a Santa Bear I had sent in a parcel to my Mum for Christmas, just to pack up the box and ensure that things don’t roll around in there and who knew, she stuck to it like glue! It became her bedtime toy.

After we got home, all the bears we had at home got pulled off the shelf and are now in her cot. The funniest thing is the first thing she says when I go to her room in the morning to get her is, ‘BEAR!’. And mind you, this girl literally shouts it out while pointing to all the bears she’d thrown out onto the floor. *shakes head* Sometimes I think it’s a miracle that she can entertain herself without any toys while lying in bed. But good on her! At least Mummy can get a few more minutes in bed. :)

Love mah bears....

Love mah bears....

Love mah bears....

Love mah bears....

Love mah bears....
From this you can see how attached she is to her bears. Her Santa Bear is not in the pix coz it’s still in her cot. I think he’s been replaced by that small brown bear [Tiny Bear]. She really changes her fav toys very often.

True blue water baby

It turning out to be an annual family outing for us these days. Whenever we are back in Malaysia, it seems to be a must for Ted and I to spend a few days in some nice resort. And this is mainly because it’s a hell of a lot cheaper paying for a really nice pricey room in Malaysia than back in Sydney. What we paid for our room in Penang we would never in this life time get the same in Sydney so we made the best of it. :)

I thought of trying out another hotel since we had tried Parkroyal the last time and it was ok. But apparently, due to the festive season and all, the prices had really sky rocketed. Special thanks for a family friend who managed to get us a really good price for our Grand Premier Suite at this time, really. So we settled for Parkroyal again and it didn’t disappoint. Only thing is, I wasn’t able to down that extremely delish pint of ice cold Carlsberg – I tell, aside from the ridiculous price attached to it, it was the bestest ever cold beer I have EVER EVER had in my entire life. I can still remember what it did to me the last time. But I will not……I cannot tell you la. *grin*

Getting the all around inspection
Arianna going about her rounds inspecting the room – it was nice coz it had a separate bit at the back which is like a small living room. It served us well since Arianna goes to bed at about 9pm and it’s far too early for us so we had the chance to have a cuppa and some private time. :D

Outside
View from outside our room…nice

Pool
From the top looking down into the pool. We were located at the 2nd floor so had like this long balcony all the way. Shared of course with sunchairs and tables.

Evian = Naive
Ever notive how Evian spelt backwards is naive…? Makes you think that perhaps some of us a rather ‘naive’ about mineral water eh? :P And check out that price!!! Siao wei…

The first time Arianna stepped into the pool the last time, she totally enjoyed herself and this time, she had apparently not forgotten how wonderful it can be and took to it like a duck to the water!

Water baby
This was immediately after we put her in and away she went! Didn’t really bother whether or not we were around. Just went about her way doing what she wanted to do, going after what she wanted too…really brave la.

Needless to say she screamed her head off when we took her out of the kiddies pool. And she continued even when in the room but stopped when we placed her in the bathtub to have a quick shower. But back to the screaming after she was done. It was only after I gave her a bottle did she stop and THEN it dawned on me that the poor thing was hungry. Having too much fun in the pool to realised that she was hungry and the bad mummy didn’t realise either. I felt really bad about it coz she was peachy right after the bottle. Poor little thing!

Right after her bottle, we rested abit and this is what you get and Daddy and daughter chill out together.

Epitome of relaxing

Up close
A little up close of the little madam

This second time around, we were more prepared when it came to getting fed. That first time really threw us off but not this time. We had our eyes peeled as we drove up to Ferringhi and took note of the possible places to get our meals. So the first night, we had dinner at this place called Moghul Arch. The food was so-so but VERY VERY slow. No need to say that it was too expensive la then again, it was peanuts compared to hotel prices so complaints, just that it took forever to arrive.

The next day, we went to the Butterfly Farm and the lunch was nasi kandar and roti canai. That night, we had chinese food and it was DIRT CHEAP even for Ferringhi prices. I can’t remember the name of the place but it’s the first Chinese restaurant after Parkroyal, when you turn down to the right. You can’t miss it. The food is good and it’s SO going to be the place that we will go to if we ever stay at Parkroyal again. I really have no complaints whatsoever.

And on the way back, we bought Arianna her Christmas pressie. :) A vibrating ball which played ‘Crazy Frog’. At one point after she opened the present on Christmas day, it really drove me mad coz it played continuously. However, something has happened to it and it doesn’t seem to be working after the Christmas party that night. O well….

Before we retired to our room, Ted wanted a Cappucino to make up for the Carlsberg he couldn’t have coz he was too busy keeping an eye on Arianna in the pool. Arianna spent her time climbing all over the place of course.

Frowny
A new found skill – frowning on demand. *lol* However, she doesn’t do this anymore.

Artistic
Of course I couldn’t resist getting a little artistic la. :)

I'm touching this
Glad I snapped this – check out that hand outstretched while looking at Daddy saying, ‘Daddy, I *am* touching this, you know?’. So funny!

In general, we had a really good time and more so, I think Arianna really had a ball too. Only thing was that she refused to wear the sunhat I had sewed as part of her yellow polka dot bikini suit – teruk! It was HARDWORK wei but nevermind la. At least I did it anyway. Heh…

The last time we let her touch waves, she freaked out. But apparently not anymore. Maybe its time to take her to the beach, eh? :) It’s summer after all.

Butterfly poker

I’m finally getting around to being able to blog more often. Thank goodness for proper internet connections and life-saving DVDs! *lol*

Looking back, I really miss being home in Malaysia. This trip around, it was mainly just spending time with family. We didn’t go anywhere but to Parkroyal for a weekend getaway, the Bird Park and the Butterfly Farm. I really mean just family because for most of the time, I actually forgot to contact friends! I don’t think some of them were pleased but you know what, I miss family more so, I hope they understand.

Some good friends came to visit me and I even managed to sneak in a lunch date with an ex-KDU mate with Arianna. Mindy brought Naomi along which was great. It was nice seeing how they reacted with each other. Fun!

We took a short trip into the Butterfly Farm while we were at Parkroyal. It was our second stay there and I must say that it was better this time around.

At the entrace
Here we are at the entrance. Note the welcoming note “Save our butterflies’ and keep that in mind.

Here are some shot of the butterflies around. There were so many but because they were fluttering most of the time, it was tough getting shots!

Leaf insect
Check out the camouflage!

Of course, me being the sucker for being on hands with animals and all, I couldn’t resist the animal show coz I knew that they would allow the audience to touch the animals.

Stick insect
The stick insect, so fragile looking that I was afraid of dropping it.

Scorpion stick insect
I think that this is called the Scorpion stick insect coz it was spiky and looks like a scorpion too.

Giant milipede
I found this a little bit ticklish and though most would squirm at the sight, I found it interesting. :) I was glad it didn’t *fart* at me!

Cat tail gecko
I would never, ever touch a house cicak but this I didn’t mind.

The following shot is funny. Keep in mind the welcome note you read earlier…

Butterfly poker
This was to be a shot of a really gorgeous butterfly but before I could snap it, *someone* decided to poke it! Hence, the pink blob to show where it was suppose to be. How to save the butterflies la? *lol*

One with nature
I guess we couldn’t resist just another shot of her in action. But this time, it was intentional. :)

Going diving
Apparently quite interested in the fish!

I didn’t expect the place to be that huge but trust me, it seemed as if we were stuck in there! It seemed to go on and on and on. One route lead to another exihibit and there was just no way out. Scary up to a certain point. I got sick of the butterflies at one point.

Too much of a good thing is always not good. Towards the end, Arianna got bored too. I’m just glad that we decided to go earlier in the morning coz by the time we left, it was stinking hot and terribly humid. Needless to say, we packed back food for lunch. I had my standard nasi kandar and Ted had his roti canai. :) Cheap and yummilicious!!!

My little girl is growing up too fast!

Sis has been here for the past 3 weeks or so and both of us noticed that Arianna has actually grown right before our eyes. According to sis, when she first arrived, Arianna’s head could be seen just slightly over the bar of her cot. But NOW……her head is well in view! How possible is that??? She could not have grown THAT much in just a few weeks, could she??? And the other thing we noticed was how big she has grown too – she looks more like a little girl and a little BABY girl, know what I mean? Geez, talk about kids just growing like weeds and here I am at home 24/7!! Can’t imagine if I was at work…..so unreal.

Anyway, here are some newest shots of Arianna taken in the last few days.

Simply sugar high over McD’s soft cone – YUM!

My little girl in her samfoo living up to her tiny bit of Chinese heritage. :)

The shots of her in the samfoo was taken while we were at a birthday party. For someone who doesn’t attend any playgroup session, I think she did extremely well with the number of kids around her. She didn’t bite  or strike anyone at all, in fact, she just played with the toys around and minded her own business. In this shot, it’s amazing that she went for the book instead of one of the millions of toys strewn across the room!!! My little bookworm… :) O, she wasn’t even whingy despite missing out on her morning nap!! But she totally conked out the minute we got into the car and had a super power nap of 20 mins!! *lol* Wouldn’t continue her sleep after that. Cheeky child!

Quite obvious that Godma [my sis] is not a very good influence here….

Teach a child to hold a beer and they reach for one themselves for the rest of their life! *lol* This tub actually held her attention for a long while. Haha!

Hhmmmm……botak baby?

For the record, botak means bald in my national language, Bahasa Malaysia. I’m bringing this up because I noticed that I haven’t experience any heartburn ever since I got preggy with Pacman. Now, now….it is not that I want to get heartburn or anything like that but apparently  mothers who suffer from heartburn tend to have babies born with a head full of hair.

This is Arianna maybe about 2 days old [She was so tiny!!!] and that is a lot of hair compared to some babies in the ward. Actually, I can dare say that she was one of the few babies who had that much hair! The other were bald. I started experiencing heartburn pretty much as soon as I found out about the pregnancy.

This time around, it’s totally different. I’ve been heartburn free which I am rather happy about because heartburn sucks! Imagine getting heartburn 24/7. Drink water also can get heartburn….what la. So now, no heartburn means I’m going to have a bald baby??? Aiyo, such a major contrast.

Ted said that it’s ok, one baby look a bit like Mat Salleh and the other one bald so no need to worry, guarantee both are his. Very funny la. Anyway, we will soon find out if this old wives tale is true or not…. :) One of the guys that Ted looks after just became an uncle and his new niece has a head full of hair. Apparently his sister, the mum, also suffered from heartburn. Food for thought eh? ;)

I’m a proud Mommy

In a previous post, I mentioned that Arianna stood up for the first time. Although it was just a few seconds, they were precious. Sadly, the vid won’t load so I’ve just settled to showing off the pix. :)

I’m such a proud Mommy!

See…..so clever la my little girl!! *beams proudly*

True blue Wiggles fan

I never thought that I’d someday say this but apparently, like Aussie kids, Arianna is hooked on The Wiggles. She is absolutely captivated by them and when she saw Dorothy the Dinosaur for the first time at 9 months or so, she didn’t freak out one bit. After all the dino was huge and jumping around on stage!! She actually enjoyed watching the show albeit from afar. Anyway, it’s been awhile since I last put up some shots of Arianna so here are some of her actions caught on camera.

She is SO into them!!

Note the concentration level here.

Absolutely enjoying the show!

How can this be comfortable?

In accordance with my keeping record of how Arianna sleeps at night and during the day, I managed to get a couple of shots of her sleeping. I don’t really know how she find this comfy at all….

Weird position 1

Weird position 2

Since we’ve officially entered spring time, I’ve taken the quilt away since we don’t really need it as she is normally suited up for bed and we normally leave the heater on in her room. We expect it to get warmer and then colder again in October. Why it’s like that in Sydney, no one knows but that’s how it works….
