Such a funny baby

It’s official, I think I’m definitely at the end of the road when it comes to bf-ing KR, directly that it. She won’t nurse at the breast anymore hence, I’ve been expressing with the pump as often as I can. I knew that once she stopped at the breast, the supply would drop but I didn’t expect it to drop so much!!! :( Anyhow, rather than dwell on the fact that I can’t express much these days, I’ve decided to purchase some nursing tea that I previously mentioned.

I may have gone a tad bit overboard coz I ended up purchasing this and this. I don’t know for sure if it will work or not but if it doesn’t, then I’ll just treat it as my normal daily dose of tea, but if it does….guess I can officially open the milk bar again! :) The other thing that one of the girls from my forum told me is to make nursing cookies which contains flaxseed and brewer’s yeast. And it MUST be brewer’s yeast and nothing else. So I might try that out too, aftter I get the ingredients of course. :)

Now, what’s been happening with KR? Well, she is more than happy to take her milk in the bottle which is weird coz Arianna never liked it and first had her bottle when she was close to 1 year old. KR can already hold the bottle up to feed herself! The funny things about KR is that when she does drink her milk, she must have it upright. Eg. she has to be sitting upright with her head tilted and not lying down. If I attempted to feed her by trying to get her to lie down, all hell breaks lose and she will scream her lungs out! I really don’t know what’s with that. If I set aside gold coins each time she screamed at my attempts, we’d be rich by now!

And the last 2 times she had her milk, she insisted that we stood up and give her the bottle. Too much right? =.= But I guess things could be worst, eh? On the solids front, she’s having more mashed foods now as compared to pureed. I admit that we started a little late on solids but I think this slight change in texture just means that she is ready to move on to more coarser textures. That said, I have been meaning to give her cheese sticks but member got no teeth so I don’t know what good it will be and also if yogurt and cheese would give her any bowel issues. I might just try a small piece and she how she takes to it and then take it from there.

Smoking while pregnant?!

I seriously couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw this today while waiting for my train to work, it’s my first day! :D Anyhoo, I was minding my own business waiting for the train when this rather heavily pregnant woman sat beside me. At first I really didn’t notice her at all until I saw her lighting a cigaratte!! @.@

I mean seriously!!! She was that heavily pregnant that if she went over a speed bump, she could seriously go into labour. She was that preggers. And what the heck was going through her mind to be smoking in this condition is beyond me. I had half a mind to tell her off that if she didn’t care that she died of lung cancer, have pity on the innocent child. Poor thing is not only getting unwilling poluted because he/she’s got a stupid cow for a mum, but also facing the potential of ending up an orphan if that cow gets lung cancer and dies on him/her!! And to top if off, she was polluting MY air space!! That’s just super unfair and selfish of the mum-to-be, imho.

I know of friends who have quit because they found out they were preggers. In fact, one of them totally gave up even after bub came along while the other one just went back to her old ways of clubbing and drinking after bub came along. That is another one I cannot understand…but who am I to judge right? Haiz, how people can be that selfish is beyond me la.

A truly unexpected event

And a very sad one at that too! :(

About 4 days ago, while watching Harry Potter, Ted laughed out loud and it sort of took KR by surprise and she wasn’t impressed by it and began to cry. So after calming down, she was very fussy and didn’t want to nurse. I just assume it was because she was upset, had teeth coming in and also coz I did have some wine that night. However, since that day, she has refused to nurse any more. Hence, I have been expressing milk as often and as much as I can as I did not see this coming. On top of that, my backup frozen milk also finished faster than I could stock up coz of this unexpected turn of events.

Needless to say, that as much as I have been pumping, my supply has dwindled so low that it’s not funny anymore. In fact, it’s quite sad and pathetic. I had aimed to continue bf-ing her until 2 yrs old but now, she’s only 9 months come 28/1/10 and she’s already weaned herself off me. :( I am very sad and upset about this. I feel that I have shortchaged her, health wise and that this will cause her to lose out on the goodness of booby juice. Also, I just absolutely hate to pump. I think it takes such a lot of effort when I could just easily pop one out. *sigh*

Hence, she’s current on 1/2 bm and 1/2 formula to begin with but last night I tried her on all formula and she was ok with it. So although I am still expressing I don’t know how long the supply will be in for. As it is, it takes ages to get 100ml from both boobs sometimes. I have to literally squeeze the living daylights out of them. *Ouchies indeed!* Seeing that I am also now back at work for awhile, it has become a little handy with formula. While someone I know is trying to stop breastfeeding as she feels that she’s done her part and that it is difficult looking after her bub full time coz she is sleep deprived from late night expressing, I am one who is trying so hard to get back on the horse!

I wish we could exchange boobs! Her supply is just overflowing…. *sigh* She doesn’t know how blessed she is!!! I wish I could tell her that when you have a baby, it’s no longer all about ‘I’….’I’ doesn’t exist anymore once you’ve had a baby. It’s no longer about you, my dear. But because I do not want to hurt your feelings and tell you that perhaps you were not ready to have this child yet, I am keeping my mouth shut. I pity your baby….I really do. Anyways, I think I might look into getting some sort of nursing tea to help with the supply like this and this. I’m waiting to hear back from the girls in my sewing forum and see what feedback I can get.

Someone also mentioned to me that I should eat more during meals which it actually suddenly occurred to me that I hadn’t really been eating much lately. Just not really that hungry and well, kind of lost my appetite. Even Ted has noticed that I am not as crazy over food as I used to be. And no, I am not taking those products my friends keep insisting is the best weight loss products around. I am not trying to lose weight at all. If at all, I am just maintaining my current weight. I can’t afford to lose too much weight as I’m sure it will effect KR in more ways than 1.

ALSO…..did you know that KR’s formula milk is more expensive than Arianna’s??? It’s insane, I tells ya!! Anyhoo, off to wallow in sadness over this lost of a most intimate and precious bond…..

All for the love of locks

If you haven’t noticed, Arianna hair has grown a fair bit. I guess for most of the time, I tie it up coz it’s summer now and honestly, although it’s HER hair, I get all ‘rimas’ [a loose Malaysian term for uncomfortable] because her hair is all over her face and in her face and omg, it just drives me nuts! It’s no help that Ted is always at me to leave her hair down. I know she’s got nice curls and I like them lots too but certainly not in this weather, I will not. Perhaps come the cooler weather, I can just tie up the front bit which is causing the most irritation to me. :P

Sadly, with those curls comes lots of tangles. :( Yes, and as much as I hate having to comb her hair, I have to otherwise it will get worst over time. I keep forgetting to get that de-tangler solution which is formulated for kids hair until today. I knew I married Ted for a reason. :P He remembered to get it while he was out and it has been God-sent I tell you!!! It’s an organic based one which is great and apparent is a brand that is quite exposed in the world of kids with tangled hair. And it is a wonder!!! O, wait a minute, did I already say that? :P Well, I just had to say it again.

Being a hot day today, we had the kids out on the balcony in buckets of cool water and after about 1 hour, brought them in to have a bath and I washed Arianna’s hair. Immediately after, I dried her hair and gave the spray a go and omg, tangle-free!!! No more whinging and whining from the little miss…thank you God!

Anyway, this just reminded me of the time when I was growing up and had all this skin issues and I was always getting stuff to help cure them. Anything would do and if it worked on someone, I’d give it a go. I should have realised that I should have gone with a exposed acne solution rather than to try everything on the shelf. But thankfully, those days are behind me. I sometimes wonder and I really do hope with all my might that the girls do not inherit this awful skin gene for me.

I would not wish it on anyone at all, especially my girls. *Fingers, eyes and toes crossed*

My little Songbird

I actually just recently noticed that Arianna tends to sing along more when certain songs on telly comes on. This is mainly all the shows that she watches like Chuggington, Waybuloo and some ads on tv too. It’s so funny coz she pretty much sort of hums along and then suddenly there is this outburst because she knows for sure what the word is or if it sounded like a simple word she could pronounce.

Even MIL commented the other day how she was singing and was very happy to hear it. I just think it’s hilarious and I hope to catch it on camera or at least record it. I think it’s just priceless! :) And someday, just imagine how I could use this to blackmail her. Hehehe….I’m so cunning like that. :P

Other than singing along, I have to say that I am constantly being surprised at how much her vocab has really expanded in such a short period of time. Sometimes, she just carries on and babbles at such high speeds, I could swear blind that she was talking in tongues or something! More often than not, I get tired from listening to her carry on non-stop coz it must be tiring on her mouth to carry on like that but it doesn’t stop her from chattering though. lol Thank goodness we have not had to seek any emergency medical assistance to un-twist her tongue or anything that sounds remotely as crazy as that! :P

I gotta admit though, the house will be so quiet once we go off to Malaysia and I can see why Ted is so dreading it. Poor Daddy!

Arianna rules with an iron fist

As KR gets older, I noticed that she is already beginning to voice out her disapproval when Arianna takes a toy from her when she isn’t ready to let go just yet. Or when she gets bored lying in bed after she’s woken up and I haven’t gone in to get her out of the cot. It’s so cute when she gets frustrated and shows you that she is. *lol* I’m so cruel like that. Heh.

Anyway, this must be a ‘I’m the bigger sister, what I say/do goes’ issue coz Arianna never plays with her own toys anymore these days. As long as KR has her hands on something, then THAT is the thing that Arianna wants to play with as well. Never mind that it isn’t hers to begin with, if it’s being played with, then she must have it. This is going to be a common scenario, and I can already see it happening. *sigh*

All the toys that Arianna got for Christmas is chucked aside coz she wants to play with KR’s present instead and no matter how often we explain to her, she refuses to accept it.

Me : Arianna, that’s baby’s toy. You leave it alone and go play with your own toys, ok?
Arianna : Baby’s toy…baby’s toy. *Repeating while taking it away at the same time*
Me : No Arianna, that’s baby’s toy, leave it alone!
Arianna : *Grabs the Sesame Street blankey and it’s ALWAY this toy and hands it over* Baby Sesame…
Me : Yes, that’s right. That’s baby’s but she wants to play with something else. Can you give her something else?
Arianna : *Totally ignores me* Baby Sesame…. *Walk off with KR’s toy and chucks it away after a few steps away*
Me : ????? [How to prevent hair loss like this???]

And mind you, if I were to retrieve that toy that she chucked aside a few seconds ago, the above scenario repeats exactly the same way. So it all boils down poor baby having to play with what Arianna says she can play with and so happens, it’s the blanket with Elmo and a squeaky star. How pitiful is that? I’ve given up hope already. I try and try to explain and I kid you not, I know she understands but she just chooses to ignore it. It’s really irritating man. But what can you do?

Now we just set aside the toys that they normally fight over and KR gets to play with ALL the forbidden toys when Arianna is in bed. So kesian only.

Baby’s mum-mum!

With both girls, food has always been an issue. With Arianna, her early days were ok, it’s not that I have issues with. But with KR, it has started way too early. :( Because of her bowel issues just before she turned 6 months, I put off giving her solids until she was about 7 months. Perhaps me posphoning introducing her to solids is the reason why her progress to various textures is so lagging behind. While babies her age are eating pasta and meats, I can’t even get her to eat avocado without gagging like she was dying!

This actually happened today. I’ve been wanting to move her onto more rough textured foods but from this experience, I think she is not ready. Compared to Arianna, she is very fussy with food, even at this age. So far I noticed that she likes pear but not too mad about apples. So whatever I give her, I have to mask it with pear. So it’s pumpkin and pear, pumpkin+potato+pear, etc. But her range is not that varied just yet. She’s tried banana – didn’t like it, avocado – hated it and gagged like mad and that’s about it. But anything that comes out of a bottle, she loves. *rolls eyes* Terrible right? I try to give her more fruits and veg coz of her bowel issues and is still having a little bit of difficulty in poo-ing. And she is drinking water so much more than Arianna ever did at this age too! It’s a good thing we own a wf2cb water filter coz it really does make things so easy for me, trying to keep 2 kids happy at one time.

That said, today was the day we tried avocado. And normally, Arianna always insist on trying whatever KR has and I let her just so she’d shut up, honestly.

Arianna : Try, Mummy…try!
Me : But it’s baby’s mum-mum, Arianna…. *Continues to spoon the ever gagging KR*
Arianna : Prease, Mummy, prease….
Me : Aiyo….okla! *Gives Arianna a spoonful* Ok? Want some more? *At this point, I didn’t want to give KR any more coz poor thing was really gagging big time*
Arianna : No, no…baby’s mum-mum!

LOL I think she didn’t expect it to taste so foul! LOL Normally she’d be bugging me for more but not this time though. Hahahaha….cunning isn’t she? :P

Wasn’t me!

I tell you, Arianna is quite a joker when you least expect it! *lol* I’m already laughing just trying to type this out. *lol lol* You know, if I laughed as much as I did when this happened, I don’t have to worry about losing weight coz laughing this hard is a superb fat burner. Anyway, this happened yesterday…

Ted was home and we just had tea. And he was walking past Arianna who was crouched on the floor over her book and when something like a loud fart rang through the house.

Me : Daddy!! Was that you??
Ted : That wasn’t me!!
Arianna : Was me! Was me! *Answered with gusto if I might add*

ROTFLOL
