The luxury of handmade clothes

As I was packing away the girls warm clothes, I realised that some of them were only worn perhaps once or twice. Then I sit down and realised that I must have been sewing a lot and not really letting them wear what I’ve sewn often enough, which is a sad thing since kids just shoot up like weeds and before I can blink, I have to start sewing one size up! Talk about the luxury of having handmade clothes eh? ;)

Thankfully, I have 2 girls so most of what Arianna has worn KR can wear in the near future but being born in different seasons does make a slight difference though. Arianna is an early Autumn baby while KR is an early winter baby so their clothes are off by 1 season, give or take. But that isn’t really a big deal since weather wise, the temperature is abt the same. Also, it is a blessing when you are able to just whip something up if you don’t enough of something. ;) Pretty much what I’ve been doing really. I am proud to say that Arianna’s clothes from her undies to her outer wear are mostly handmade. :) I’ve only recently started sewing her panties and singlets but not that many since I still have a few bought ones which fits quite nicely. Also, I don’t really have the right fabric for singlets so when the time does come, I will have to go and get some.

Most of the time, I sew their going out clothes since at home, they just wear simple shorts and Tshirt but it is also through other observation that what I’ve sewn to wear out and normally nicer, tends to not get enough wear so these days, I try to dress them up in nice clothes even though they are at home. Might as well make the most of the clothes since I’ve gone through the trouble of sewing them right? ;)

Some 6 months shots

People say that when it comes to kids, time just flies and you know what, it’s truly true. I personally think that a child’s growth is the fastest in their first month of life. It’s just such a wonder how fast they grow in that 1st month! If I had a camera that could record continuously, I would have definitely recorded her all that time! Anyway, in just a couple of days, KR will turn 7 months so here are some shots of her while she is still 6 months. :)

I think I’ll do a monthly sort of photo update from now. :)

Men….

What is it with men and car accessories? I don’t know one man who isn’t crazy over car accessories, really. And mind you, doing up your car doesn’t come cheap especially if it’s an uncontrollable craze or desire. I’ve seen some pretty ‘badly’ done up car around and most of them belong to car ethusiats or what I rather call car hoons coz most of the time they are racing down the road at ungodly hours and screeching their tires and those engines…gawd, what do they run on? Tortured souls??

But thank goodness for me, Ted isn’t like that at all and although he does like accessories, his choice is limited to nice CD players and a wide rear-view mirror. :D Aren’t I a lucky wife?

Is it possible??

Please make it possible!! :) Well, this is more with regards to me hoping that since I’ve been on my dairy free diet for almost a month now, a fw more kilos would have dropped. Why? Well, while I was on my normal dairy diet, I used to have my teh susu [tea with milk] at least once a day and sometimes, when I feel like it, it would be twice a day. Now, although I do not really have a sweet tooth, I really like my tea creamy and sweet.

Back in Malaysia, I used condensed sweetened milk but over here, I didn’t bother buying due to the cost as well as I’d have to finish it on my own as Ted doesn’t take it at all. Now, when I say sweet..I really mean sweet! I’m talking 4 teaspoons of sugar per mug. *smiles guiltily* That is indeed a fair amount of sugar and most likely would have given the trainers on Biggest Loser a major cardiac arrest! But that said, since the dairy free diet, no more milk tea hence less sugar and hopefully some weight loss.

Guess I don’t need to try that apidexin. ;)

Mummy’s going back to work

Apparently I am a wanted woman! lol :P Some time ago, I was looking for a part time job and had emailed my ex-boss to ask him if there was anything at TAFE for me. He said that there was none at that time and that he would keep me in mind if anything turned up.

True to his word, he recently contacted me and asked if I was interested to come in for a temp position at which I jumped and said yes. Although I am really apprehensive about going back to work and leaving the kids behind with Ted, I know that this is a common thing and working mums around the globe are doing it. So I am biting the bullet and giving it a shot.

That said, it’s been ages since I had anything done to my hair or face. I used to get acne treatment done for my face because it was really bad while I was growing up and I still have the scars to prove it. But these days, just a normal facial is suffice for me. I am certainly looking forward to a nice facial and hair cut but have no idea when all this will take place coz of Ted’s shift work. But either way, we will have to work something out really soon coz time will soon run out before you know it. And with Chrissy just around the corner, one can’t wait too long!

Where has my baby gone?

My Arianna is already 2yrs 3mths!! *can pengsan* Where did the time fly? Where is my little baby?

She loves saying ‘Cheese’ and posing for me these days. And I am ever grateful for it! :P

Thank goodness I have KR…. :D

Whhoooppppeeeee!!! Balik kampung!!! :D

Translated that mean, going back to my hometown. :) I’m so excited!!!! We managed to get some rather cheap Air Asia flights back to KL from Gold Coast. It is a bugger having to lug 2 kids around but with sis to help out, we should be fine. :D I can’t believe we managed to get those tix. The last day to puchase was 15/11/2009 and believe it or not, Mum told me about it the day before and we were merely tossing around the idea. But when taking into account how cheap it was, we decided that arvo that we’d fly down and praise God, purchased the tix 1 minute before midnight!!! Talk about walking on thin ice eh? :P

So it is official, we will grace Kulim with our presence from 13/5/2010 to 13/8/2010. Wished I could stay longer but the kids visas only last 3 months so it’ll have to do. I gotta say that we would not have gotten these tix if AA insisted that the passport numbers were keyed in on the spot. KR has not yet got her passport so that is our priority now to get that on the way. I too have to check with immigration about my visa as I want to have a sticker in my passport rather than a piece of A4 paper that could easier get mistaken for rough paper. A fair bit to do but should be more than enough time.

O, with sis coming out to help me, it is planned that we will be spending a few days in Gold Coast prior to the trip back to KL. Haven’t really decided where to go since #1. I dont have my license and no way am I going to drive by myself in some new place. #2. Can’t go to all those Worlds with the kids and no Ted to keep them in line. So we will most likely be going to the zoo or something. According to sis, ‘ As long as I touch Gold Coast soil, I’m happy’. So I’m just playing along. ;) However, on the way back to Sydney, we are planning a short holiday there too. Might as well make the most of it since we not only arrive at some ungodly hour in the morning, seeing that we are already there and it would be sometime in winter, the room rates will be cheaper than normal and would be nice to have a tiny Aussie family getaway.

But we’ll see how that bit goes. For now, Kulim….wait for me!!

My new exercise regime…

I’m always complaining that I’m fat. I think every woman on this planet thinks that way of themselves. I bet even the supermodels themselves feel like that although they have the best bodies around. To be totally honest, I am actually quite ok with how my body looks like today. My excuse is that I’ve had 2 kids so I am allowed to be a little flabby. lol

I know it’s not a good excuse but every now and then, I’d joke about my jiggly bits aka my spare tire. I bet I can use it as my floatie if ever I fall over into the water. :P Now, bear in mind that I and only I am ever allowed to joke about MY jiggly bits. Its a good thing that Ted has nothing against them. ;) That said, I am always on the lookout for the best way to lose belly fat. ;) It was only recently that I realise Arianna is at that age where she tends to copy everything she sees and hears.

So a couple of days ago, I put on a Latin CD and both of us were shaking our bon-bons like nobody’s business! :D It was really fun and omg, I really sweated a bucket load. It’s not everyday you find a method of losing weight that you enjoy doing. I’ve always loved dancing and going clubbing and all that dancing really brought back some sweet memories. I am certainly looking forward to more dancing with my baby. :) And I can’t wait till KR is old enough too..we’re SO going to be dancing like mad. LOL :D

I think we did it. :D

The last post I did was talking about how we’ve totally put away all of Arianna’s DVDs and VCDs. And since then, we have hardly turned on the tv at all. I’ve been tempted many times just to let her watch one of her morning kiddie shows but I’m so terrified that she’d remember that show she was obsessing about that I rather that she forego tv all together than take the risk. Hence, the only tv she’s been watching since the store-away was 1/2 hr of Simpson and then Big Bang Theory last night and tonight, just 1/2 hr of Border Security! *lol* I know these are hardly kiddie shows but heck, as long as there’s movement on tv, I think she was happy enough.

Surprisingly, in a good way, she didn’t whinge or carry on when I turned the tv off after the show like how she normally does when we switch off the tv previously. This is no doubt a GREAT sign and perhaps what we were trying to achieve in the first place. I’m glad that it turned out this way although I really couldn’t see the end of the tunnel when we first put away her stuff.

To some this cold turkey treatment may seem harsh seeing that tv and kids go hand in hand. But I say it’s best to go cold turkey and nip the problem in the butt. I’m glad we did it this way because in reality, like it or not, one has to be cruel to be kind. And in this case, we just had to because we needed to reprogram her mindset. I have to admit that now we dont watch tv at all during the day, I do indeed spend more time with Arianna and I can’t say that its all that bad. It does drive me nutters when I have to sing ‘This little piggy’, ‘Incy wincy spider’ and a list of other songs at least 5 times repeatedly but if that makes her happy, I’m all ok with it. ;)

Now I just need to try and get her to stop hitting. And share hers and KR’s toys with KR! *sigh*

The day the DVDs and VCDs went into storage

Yes….it finally happened. All of Arianna’s VCDs and DVDs have gone into storage, indefinitely. In fact, as of now, she’s been on a 48 hour tv detox and is doing quite well really. :)

I guess this is part and parcel of the terrible twos stage. I wished I could bypass this and collect a happy child but sadly, this is impossible. Sometimes, it is so bad I wished I could auction her off on eBay! Heck, some days I just want to give her away….

We’re at the stage where she is testing our patience and pushing all our buttons to see what her limits are and it’s really tough trying to not lose my temper and whack the bejeezers out of her. I am slow to anger but sometimes, when I feel it coming on, I really try to tell myself that she is but a child. It is T O U G H. Anyway, what caused this drastic action was just something which was long time coming.

Ever since there were signs that the terrible twos was close at hand, Arianna has been acting really bratty and throws tantrums a lot. She tends to throw things around and since I’ve smacked her hand a few times for being naughty, I think she has picked it up and is now hitting back when she is angry or upset that she has been scolded. Sometimes she does it for no reason which of course ends with her in time-out. Time-out is being chucked into her cot without the bears. Total number today has increased to 3. There’s Bear, Bear and Teddy. :/

Anyway, on Saturday we went to the Thai Festival down by Parramatta River and she had so much fun running around but when it was time to go home. She started throwing a massive tantrum! She was the only child carrying on and it was a super one at that too. On on top of the screaming/crying, she was also throwing her head back while in the stroller. A typical bratty brat is what I’d call it and this is something that neither Ted or I have ever wanted to see our kid be.

I guess we have been giving in too much and pampering her. And letting her watch dvds and the lot is one of the causes. She has been obsessing over a certain vcd lately and it is just ridiculous that she asks to watch it at least 5 times a day. The upside is that she actually puts away her toys and tells me what she has done and waits to be rewarded. It was a bribe on my part which apparently has backfired. Now she associates putting things back equals to tv time. *slaps forehead*

I’m not sure how long this ‘fast’ will be and I dare not switch on the tv for her to watch her other kiddie shows as I dare not take the risk of her whinging and whinning about wanting to watch Baby Bright and only Baby Bright. Might as well stop watching tv all together..at least for now. Not too sure what the next step will be. *sigh*
