Observant eyes

Just the other day, Ted confirmed my feelings and thoughts – we’ve both suddenly realise that we are now more observant and that our eyes often trail to families with strollers and are often looking at babies, all the time.

I think Aida had mentioned this in her blog somewhere too. I used to always look at babies but now, I seem to be seeking them out every where we go and Ted seems to agree too. I guess he didn’t really used to notice the babies but he mentioned that recently he has. Must be some kind of transformation that is happening to us. But for me, I notice even more.

I notice the fact that the stroller is often overloaded with kiddie stuff and a big bag of baby stuff as well. Some strollers are like a double-decker where baby sleeps on top and big brother/sister can sit at the bottom. I think this is a good idea. We have a friend whose stroller is somewhat like that but because his daughter is so flexible, she can comfortably squeeze herself into this small space where the baby bag is normally placed, that is below the baby. So I guess they saved a bit there.

It also reminded me of how my mum used to take us to Butterworth on the train each school holidays that happened in December and I now wonder and actually realise what a fantastic feat she accomplised! Taking an at least 7 year old me and 2 year old sis all the way on a 9 hours train ride and still remain sane all those years!! :w00t: That is simply fantastic! And here I am worried about having to help a friend, who is travelling on the same leg of flight as me from Sydney to Singapore then she’s off to Jakarta, with her 4 year old and 1 year old sons! I’m just wondering how am I going to cope with that??

The other thing I realise or have come to remember is that we always had loads of bags to carry. Not only our food bag – Mum was ALWAYS prepared where food and drinks are concerned. She always sandwiches or fried rice to take with us and coffee for herself. And for us, a bottle of hot water and powder milk. She also brought with her that travelling baby rocker where you can attach it to top of the booth and put baby in to rock it to bed for sis. And of course, I never went anywhere without my smelly pillow. I still have it back home in Kulim and I would have brought it with me if Mum didn’t wash it in the machine and had it ripped apart. Although it’s not the exact same pillow, it’s the cotton that matters. It’s the SMELL that matters!

Hahaha….I know some of you may be disguested but don’t tell me you never had a smelly pillow, blanket, pillow case or even a rag for that matter. I remember my cousin having this REALLY stinky blankie. And when I say stinky, good Lord I mean give me a skunk anytime!!

He never went anywhere without it, like yours truly but the difference was that he wouldn’t let his mum wash the cloth nor anyone to go near it – not as if we were fighting to go near it or anything like that. He slept with it, pee-d on it, and took it everywhere he went until one fine day, my Mum threw it out coz it was stinking up the apartment. I can’t remember what happened when he couldn’t find his blankie but I think my aunt gave his a fresh new cloth and I doubt he was amused by it. But by this, you can see how attached some of us can get. In any case, I think I’ve derailed from my topic so I shall leave it at that.

I wonder what Kecik’s smelly thing is going to be…..a blanket or a pillow?
